About
In October 2005 I was diagnosed with severe hypothyroidism. Like many hypothyroid patients, I got the feeling my doctor (in the five minutes she spent talking to me per appointment) wasn’t really giving me all the information available, so I decided to start doing my own research.
Of course, when you research things online, you have to be careful about what you believe and what you don’t. There are a lot of sites offering all kinds of alternative medicine “cures” and treatments for almost any disorder you can imagine. So, I figured if I was kind of in the dark about this disorder, a lot of other hypothyroid patients probably are too, and since I work on the internet professionally, I thought I could help out a lot of other less-internet-experienced patients by using my online research experience to try and sort the garbage out from the good information.
I compiled my research, along with my own personal experience, on this site. One thing to keep in mind to get the best information from this site:
The My Story section is just me explaining my personal experience with trying to get the best treatment for my hypothyroidism I can. As such, the early entries (when I was just starting my research) contain some factual inaccuracies. Look at the Medical Information, Thyroid Medications and Supplements categories for ‘reports’ on the more serious research I’ve done.
I hope my story, and my research can help other hypothyroid patients get the best treatment they possibly can, because I know from personal experience that with the right doctor, and the right prescriptions, it is possible to feel “normal” again!
