Medical Records to Date

Here it is: the bare-bones history of my test results, vital stats and prescriptions since my first TSH test in September. In most cases, the prescription and vitals listed for a particular month were taken/written ~4 days after the blood tests were drawn, so I’ve just grouped them all together.

September 2005

Went in for initial exam, had a gazillion blood tests ordered.

Labs: (27 Sept.) TSH: 150.0 uIU/mL (normal: 0.350–5.500)
Vitals: T:98.5 BP:124/92 HR:68 W:199.25

October 2005

Returned for test results, was given initial prescription, and sent for more bloodwork.

Labs: (06 Oct.) T4, Free (Direct): 0.36 ng/dL (normal 0.61–1.76)
Triiodothyronine, Free, Serum (T3): 1.5 pg/mL (normal: 2.3–4.2)
Vitals: T:98.3 BP:108/82 HR:70 W:198.5
Prescription: 125mcg levothyroxine (generic)

November 2005

Went in for first follow-up blood tests, prescription was increased.

Labs: (14 Nov.) TSH: 7.409 uIU/mL
Vitals: T:99.6 BP:115/82 HR:76 W:190.25
Prescription: 150mcg levothyroxine (generic)

December 2005

Second follow up blood tests came back “within normal range,” I asked about switching to Armour because my symptoms had not entirely resolved. PhA recommended staying on Levo for a few more weeks to ensure I stabilized on the new 150mcg dose before considering changing meds.

Labs: (28 Dec.) TSH: 1.119 uIU/mL
Vitals: T:99.6 BP:115/82 HR:76 W:190.25

March 2006

Labs came back well within normal range, but I asked to try Armour due to persistent cognitive symptoms.

Labs: (22 Mar.) TSH:0.803 uIU/mL
Thyroxine (T4): 12.1 ug/dL (normal: 4.5–12.0)
Triiodothyronine (T3): 104 ng/dL (normal: 85–205)
Vitals: T:97.7 BP:124/84 HR:84 W:180
Prescription: 90mg Armour

May 2006

First check up after starting Armour. TSH was up, I asked for an increased prescription. T3 was high, but PhA said that was to be expected for a patient on birth control hormones.

Labs: (09 May) TSH: 2.548 uIU/mL
Thyroxine, Free, Direct (T4): 0.87 ng/dL
Triiodothyronine (T3): 225 ng/dL
Vitals: T:(not recorded) BP:126/80 HR:84 W:180.4
Prescription: 120mg Armour

July 2006

Went in feeling really good. Lab results came back with high T3 (again), and extremely low TSH. PhA insisted on lowering my prescription, even though I didn’t want to.

Labs: (24 July) TSH: 0.035 uIU/mL
Thyroxine, Free, Direct (T4): 1.14 ng/dL
Triiodothyronine, Free, Serum (T3): 5.2 pg/mL
Vitals: T:98.3 BP:110/62 HR:76 W:172
Prescription: 105mg Armour (1 60mg + 1/2 90mg per day)

As you can see, there have been no really major changes in my vitals, except for my weight (which I fear has gone back up a bit since July). As of today, I’m due for another round of blood tests this week, but haven’t gotten around to going in for them yet. Updates posted as they happen, I’m adding a new blog category just for Test Results. :-)

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland at the front of your neck, just below your adam's apple. Thyroid hormones control the body's metabolism. When it doesn't produce enough hormones, you have hypothyroidism.
