Worse before it’s better?

So I was put on thyroid medication (generic Synthroid, a T4-only medication) for a 6 week trial, after a blood test showed very high TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) levels. Supposedly it can take weeks for your body to readjust properly to the new T4 (thyroxine) levels… so the plan was to take a small dose of the stuff for 6 weeks, do follow-up blood tests at 6 weeks, and go in to see the doctor a few days later (after the follow-up test results were in).
I started actually feeling worse after the first week of the medication…
Dry/tired-feeling eyes, lack of coordination, gasping for air for no apparent reason, tightness in my chest (like a mild asthma attack), really dry skin on my hands and feet (although that might just be because of the seasonal weather change here). The list goes on.
Part of me wonders if it’s all psycho-somatic. Maybe now that I know about this ‘problem’ I apparently have, I’m somehow subconsciously ‘playing up’ to my diagnosis? But I had heard mentions in a few articles that if you show high TSH levels, and the medication makes you feel worse, that could be an indication of adrenal problems… wouldn’t that be nice?
